Keep fighting to overturn ‘Citizens United’

Editor’s note: The following is from an email from the campaign of U.S. Sen. Al Franken, D-Minnesota. It is presented here as a Letter to the Editor.

Dear Friend,

Citizens United helped pave the way for the outside groups to spend millions on this year’s elections.

In 34 days, all those outside groups are going to find out whether or not their money was enough to buy Congress. But no matter what happens on Election Day, we’re going to keep fighting to overturn Citizens United.

Join the hundreds of thousands of people who are speaking out against Citizens United — sign our petition online at

Getting Citizens United off the books won’t be easy if Democrats lose this year. Congressional Republicans have blocked every measure that might hurt the bottom lines of their corporate backers, and they filibustered our attempt at a constitutional amendment.

Repealing Citizens United is the right thing to do, and it’s our best chance at restoring some sanity to our campaign finance laws. There are a lot of powerful interests who don’t want to see Citizens United change one bit — and it’s up to us to spoil their day.

Thank you.

U.S. Sen. Al Franken (D)
Minneapolis, Minnesota

Yes! If we are going to maintain a democracy, we must not allow our Congress to be bought. Politicians have always been for sale but when people, like the Koch brothers, pump millions of dollars into their chosen political campaigns, we, the constituents, are no longer being represented. Corporations are starting to OWN this country and this needs to be stopped!!

Yes, let’s just allow the unions to buy our government like they have here in almost broke Illinois! It’s not fair that those evil Koch brothers are doing the same thing that leftist billionaires like George Soros are doing!

Only Democrats have a right to buy our government…..who do these people think they are?
