Editor’s note: The following is from an email from the campaign of U.S. Sen. Al Franken, D-Minnesota. It is presented here as a Letter to the Editor.
Citizens United helped pave the way for the outside groups to spend millions on this year’s elections.
In 34 days, all those outside groups are going to find out whether or not their money was enough to buy Congress. But no matter what happens on Election Day, we’re going to keep fighting to overturn Citizens United.

Getting Citizens United off the books won’t be easy if Democrats lose this year. Congressional Republicans have blocked every measure that might hurt the bottom lines of their corporate backers, and they filibustered our attempt at a constitutional amendment.
Repealing Citizens United is the right thing to do, and it’s our best chance at restoring some sanity to our campaign finance laws. There are a lot of powerful interests who don’t want to see Citizens United change one bit — and it’s up to us to spoil their day.
U.S. Sen. Al Franken (D)
