It took a shootout for the Toronto Marlies (3-2-0-0) to outlast the Rockford IceHogs (2-1-0-1) Sunday, ending 67 minutes of scoreless skating at the Ricoh Coliseum.
Both teams had chances to grab the win but Rockford’s Michael Leighton and Toronto’s Antoine Bibeau were stellar between the pipes in regulation. IceHogs Teuvo Teravainen and Joakim Nordstrom traded goals with Spencer Abbott and Connor Brown in the shootout leaving it up to Toronto to break the tie. Greg McKegg did so with the final shot of the night.
Leighton had 28 saves for Rockford, while Bibeau turned the ‘Hogs away 33 times.
In Saturday’s action, Peter Regin scored with 1:35 left in overtime, sending Rockford past the Hamilton Bulldogs 3-2 at Hamilton’s FirstOntario Centre.
The IceHogs return to the BMO Harris Bank Center Saturday, Oct. 25. The puck drops at 7 p.m. The first 5,000 fans will receive a magnetic schedule.
