Animal Services offers half off dog adoptions through Oct. 31

Staff Report

October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, so Winnebago County Animal Services (WCAS) is offering half off the regular adoption fee on all dogs that have been at the shelter for 30 days or longer. The effort began Oct. 14 and runs through Friday, Oct. 31.

All adoptions include a free wellness exam, spay or neuter, microchip, vaccinations including a one-year rabies shot, flea and tick preventative, worming and bag of food. All adult dogs six months and older are heartworm tested. Winnebago County residents also receive a one-year Winnebago County rabies tag.

To help WCAS save more lives, adopt a companion animal, reclaim your lost pet, or volunteer at 4517 N. Main St., in Rockford. Call (815) 319-4100 or visit www.wcasrock.org.

I am glad to see that they are reducing the fees, even if just for a short time. Many people could afford to feed and care(love) an animal but lack that initial ‘large’ amount of money.(think old person on fixed income). With all the rules and money involved from the shelter, it is just easier and cheaper to get a free one from the neighborhood.
