Online Staff Report

BELOIT, Wisconsin — The Beloit International Film Festival (BIFF) has announced the next seven films in the popular Blackhawk Bank BIFF Year ’Round weekly film series.

The series, which offers popular films from past festivals and new films under consideration for BIFF 2015, has been drawing capacity crowds. Films are presented each Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. in the state-of-the-art screening facilities at the Hendricks Center for the Arts at Beloit College at the corner of Pleasant Street and East Grand Avenue in downtown Beloit, Wisconsin (former Beloit Public Library).

The next series of films will open with the documentary Slingshot Wednesday, Oct. 29. The feature-length documentary was a multiple award-winner at the Cinequest Florida and Kansas City film festivals. It focuses on inventor Dean Kamen, creator of the Segway Human Transporter, and his 15-year quest to solve the world’s safe water crisis. The film traces the story of Kamen’s water purification machine from its earliest development through recent trials in schools in rural Ghana and beyond.

BIFF Year ’Round admission is $5, $2 for students and free to members of the Film Society of Beloit. Free coffee and fresh desserts supplied by Domenico’s Italian Restaurant and Old Fashion Bakery are available each evening. Filmmakers associated with the week’s featured selection are often available to discuss their work either in person or via Skype. BIFF merchandise is also available for purchase.

The fall/winter series of films will run through the opening of BIFF Feb. 20, 2015. Attendees have the opportunity to rate new films under consideration for BIFF 2015 and help accept or reject films for the upcoming festival.

The Hendricks Center venue is provided by Beloit College and was praised as the most comfortable and best technical venue by filmgoers at BIFF 2014. The facility is handicapped accessible.

A complete schedule of upcoming films and information about membership in the Film Society is at beloitfilmfest.org.
