Edgebrook shopping center’s Festival of Fantasy Children’s Halloween Parade & Costume Contest is set to start at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 25, at the center, 1639 N. Alpine Road, Rockford. Admission is free.
The event features family-friendly entertainment and activities, including face painting, storytelling, a pumpkin carving display, balloon art, raffle prizes and crafts.
Children can register for the costume contest from 11 a.m. to noon in the Edgebrook courtyard. The parade begins at 12:30 p.m., the contest will follow shortly after from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., and prizes will be awarded by 3 p.m. This will primarily take place underneath Edgebrook’s heated overhang directly outside of Mary’s Market.
Children between the ages of infant to 12 years old are eligible for the costume contest. The five divisions are as follow: Infant to age 4 years, “Baby Boos”; 5 to 6 years, “Groovy Goblins”; 7 to 8 years, “Oh La La Owls”; 9 to 10 years, “Super Spookys”; and 11 to 12 years, “Magnificent Monsters.” Trophies will be awarded to winners of each category and one grand prize of an age- and gender-appropriate bicycle from Kegel’s Bicycle Store will be awarded to the best costume of all. Homemade costumes are preferred, but not required.
Treat bags will be handed out, while supplies last. A storyteller will read a selection of the best children’s books, while Balloon Guy Billy creates character balloons to give away. The Rockford Fire Department will be on hand with their fire vehicle to take pictures with children and their families. Participating Edgebrook merchants will open their doors for trick-or-treating for Festival of Fantasy participants. For more details, contact Darcy Hanson at Edgebrook at (815) 398-8957.
