Man arrested on child pornography charges

The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office, along with the Illinois Attorney General, announced multiple charges of child pornography against a Rockford man.

Christopher Fitzgerald, 47, was arrested Thursday, Oct. 23, after investigators executed a search warrant at his home in the 2500 block of Whale Ave.

Fitzgerald has been charged with eight counts of possession of child pornography and two counts of reproduction of child pornography.

Possession of child pornography is a C.ass 2 felony, punishable by 3-7 years in prison and reproduction of child pornography is a Class X, felony punishable by 6-30 years in prison.

As of this report, Fitzgerald is being booked into the Winnebago County Jail. Bail has been set at $5 million.

    He’s going to get up to 30 years for saving a copy of a picture of a girl, but in the next state, a guy with the same charges will go to prison for only 5 years. There is a huge disparity between the punishments in each state. Does that seem fair to you?
