Rockford Wind Ensemble kicks off season Nov. 2 with ‘Sweet Suites’

Staff Report

At 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 2, the Rockford Wind Ensemble will perform “Sweet Suites” at the Nordlof Center, 118 N. Main St., Rockford.

A suite is a collection of things designed to go together, like a suite of furniture or multiple rooms of a hotel suite. Musically, a suite is a collection of short pieces, connected by a theme, and then played one after another to create a complete work. Rockford Wind Ensemble is looking at “Sweet Suites” as an important part of the history of wind bands and is thrilled to present some favorites at this concert, the ensemble’s first of the 2014-2015 season.

A full season is planned with a total of four performances at Nordlof including Nov. 2; Dec. 7; March 1, 2015; and April 12, 2015. Members of the ensemble also perform by becoming part of the Summer Concert Band, which performs at Sinnissippi Music Shell for the Rockford Park District’s Music in the Parks program.

Tickets ($10 adults, $5 students) for “Sweet Suites” are available by calling (815) 227-8550 or at the door.
