Shelter Care Ministries hosts the annual Gathering of Friends event from 2 to 5 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 1. The event will include tours of four Shelter Care locations, and a final presentation and light refreshments served at the end of the event at the Jubilee Center.
Designed to celebrate new projects, partnerships and longtime friends and supporters, Gathering of Friends schedule for the afternoon is as follows:
• 2-4 p.m. — Open house tours held at 218 Seventh St., 2237 Seventh St., 1208 Eighth St., and MAYA’S House at 215 N. Court St. Hosts at each site will share more about programs.
• 4-5 p.m. — Tour ends with a gathering at the Jubilee Center (Court and Park Street) for recognition of new and existing partnerships, success stories told by clients in programs and generally celebrating the work of the past year. Light refreshments — including desserts, snacks and beverages — will be served.
Shelter Care Ministries was established in 1984 by Emmanuel Episcopal Church in response to the needs of a growing homeless population. The programs have expanded since then to include Jubilee Center, a daytime drop-in center serving individuals with serious chronic mental illness, emergency/transitional or permanent supportive housing programs for families that are homeless, a drop-in day center (MAYA’S House) for children who are homeless, and Careers & MORE, which prepares clients for the job market by providing classes, coaching and support.
