Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) will host a “Careers in Aviation Maintenance” open house from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 13. Representatives from Rock Valley College (RVC) and AAR Corp. (AAR) will be available to meet with individuals interested in the 24-month program. The event is open to the public and will feature a 6:15 p.m. program.
The airport recently broke ground on both the RVC Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) Program facility and the AAR maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility.
International MRO provider, AAR, broke ground last month on the $40 million, 200,000-square-foot facility. The MRO is expected to generate more than 500 jobs and will allow RFD to expand its capabilities to provide service and maintenance to the next generation of wide-body aircraft.
The new 40,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art AMT facility will quadruple the size of the existing building and feature an expanded and enhanced educational course of study for aeronautical maintenance and repair. The program is designed to promote economic development and position a more strongly educated and aligned workforce. It is expected to significantly increase the number of annual program graduates.
Graduates of the AMT Program are prepared to join the ranks of the more than 6,500 workers in the region who are employed in aerospace companies similar to AAR. Positions include airline or general aviation engine mechanics and airframe mechanics.
Classes begin January 2015. Visit RockValleyCollege.edu/Aviation for more information and to register.
