DEKALB, Illinois — The annual Holiday Happenings is a two-fold celebration to usher in the holiday season and to celebrate the end of another tour season at the Joseph F. Glidden Homestead and Welcome Center.
The event is scheduled for noon to 4 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 16. Along with tours of the historic homestead and an opportunity to see the blacksmiths in action, the day will include refreshments and musical entertainment.
Michael Crowe of Rochelle, Illinois, will play the Glidden family’s upright piano in the turn-of-the-century parlor from 1 to 2 p.m. He will play old-time standards, ragtime and some holiday favorites. Crowe also plans to bring his concertina to play a few Irish tunes.
This is the last opportunity to tour the homestead and visit with the blacksmiths until the historic site reopens for tours in May. Tours are offered for $4 for adults, and free for children and homestead members.
