A popular holiday tradition, J. R. Sullivan’s “Hometown Holiday” returns to Rockford Dec. 12 through 14 in the Sullivan Theater of the Nordlof Center in downtown Rockford. The popular holiday variety show, conceived and produced by J. R. Sullivan of the former New American Theater, features holiday-inspired storytelling, comedy and seasonal and popular songs.
This year will mark the 19th holiday season since 1994 that Sullivan has presented his show featuring a talented cast of actors and musicians from Rockford and Chicago, as well as artists from both East and West coasts. Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, December 12 and Saturday, December 13, and 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 14.
This year “Hometown Holiday” welcomes Miles Nielsen and bassist Jim McDowell, new members of the returning company of musicians, vocalists and actors. Composer and pianist Shawn Wallace returns, joined by jazz violinist and multi-instrumentalist Randy Sabien, Rockford favorite Holland Zander, and singer/songwriter Megon McDonough making a return appearance to “Hometown Holiday” after a year’s absence. Actors Linda Abronski, Jeff Christian, Marcella Rose Sciotto, and Daniel Patrick Sullivan will join them again this year. A perennial favorite, an all-new Rockford story by J. R. Sullivan, also will be featured.
“It is as exciting a line-up as we’ve ever featured in Hometown Holiday,” says Sullivan. “The addition of Miles Nielsen and Jim McDowell to our show, along with Holland Zander, Randy Sabien, Shawn Wallace, and Megon McDonough makes for a tremendous company of remarkable singers, composers, and instrumentalists. Our blend of jazz, folk, pop, and rock finds a welcome home at the Nordlof Center, and when combined with our Hometown acting company, a unique show is always the result. For me, of course, it is a joy to be back home for the holidays and onstage in downtown Rockford.”
