Rockford Writers’ Guild hosts ‘In Readers We Trust’ Nov. 16 at Burpee

Staff Report

Rockford Writers’ Guild (RWG) will present “In Readers We Trust,” a trust-building writing workshop, at Burpee Museum of Natural History, 737 N. Main St., from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 16.

Michael Perry, Ph.D., will examine concrete ways in which the writing cliché “show, don’t tell” encourages a writer to trust the reader.

Dr. Perry is associate professor and chairman of the English Department at Rockford University.

A writing contest and a potluck will also be included in the Nov. 16 event. The event is free and open to the public. Young writers will have a separate meeting with Youth Director Lori Marshall.

“The Junior Guild will briefly explore one of the Burpee Museum exhibits, and then we will spend time polishing the collaborative story we began in October,” Marshall said. “We will share the finished product with the Guild, if possible.”
