Staff Report

SwedishAmerican has announced it is opening a new Mother/Baby unit on the eighth floor of SwedishAmerican Hospital, 1401 E. State St. The new 3,000-square-foot unit will offer private rooms for all new moms and many amenities to maximize patient and family comfort, including flat-screen televisions, large closets, comfortable sleeping options for family members and more. The unit is expected to open in late fall.

We are thrilled to have a new Mother/Baby unit for our expectant mothers,” said Fiona Springman, director of women and children’s services at SwedishAmerican. “Our new Mother/Baby unit is a beautiful and serene space, offering several amenities where new parents and their babies can connect and bond together.”

SwedishAmerican delivers more babies than any other hospital in northern Illinois. The hospital gives expectant mothers the freedom to customize their birthing experience and offers the region’s loveliest birthing suites while extending privileges to the most popular obstetricians and family physicians in the region.

Additionally, SwedishAmerican has announced it is offering new, complimentary online childbirth and breastfeeding materials. Both materials are available on SwedishAmerican’s website, www.swedishamerican.org. The materials are offered in an interactive web-based format that includes animated illustrations and videos explaining the childbirth and breastfeeding processes.
