Rockford man faces heroin charges after search of Crosby Street apartment

Rockford Police Department’s Narcotics Unit and District 2 Neighborhood Response Unit executed a search warrant at 1430 Crosby St., apartment 2, Nov. 17. The Narcotics Unit had been investigating the resident for the past several weeks for his involvement with selling heroin.
The resident had previously been identified as Thurston J. Sherod. Upon executing the search warrant, Sherod attempted to flee out the back door of the duplex, but was taken into custody without further incident.
During a search of the residence, 39 individual bags containing heroin were located, along with U.S. currency and other items associated with drug trafficking.
Sherod, 35, of Rockford, has been charged with possession with intent to deliver 1-15 grams of heroin within 1,000 feet of a school, delivery of 1-15 grams of heroin, and delivery of 1-15 grams of heroin within 1,000 feet of a school.
Winnebago County tax records show the owners of the property at 1430 Crosby St. as Frank and Valerie Pass.
