Mayor’s Interfaith Thanksgiving Service Nov. 23

Rockford Interfaith Council will present the 25th Annual Mayor’s Interfaith Thanksgiving Service at 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 23, at Fisher Memorial Chapel on the campus of Rockford University, 5050 E. State St., Rockford.

Harlan Johnson will be the speaker for the Thanksgiving program. His theme will be “Connecting with God and Each Other.” It will be interactive.

The program, which is free and open to the public, will last about 90 minutes. Special music will be provided. Faith communities will offer 1-minute prayers, including Hindu, Native American, the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, Jewish, Zoroastrian, Christian, Buddhist, Unitarian Universalist, Baha’i, Muslim.

Refreshments will be provided after the service. A free-will offering will be taken. People are invited to bring canned goods for local food pantries.

    I never knew that Thanksgiving was a religious holiday.
