‘Botanicas de la Villita’ filmmakers featured in free lecture at Rockford Art Museum tonight

Rockford Art Museum (RAM) is offering a free lecture at 7 p.m., tonight, Thursday, Nov. 20. Filmmakers Brian Ashby and Emmanuel Camacho will talk about their documentary short, Botanicas de la Villita.
Ashby won Best Documentary at the 2010 Chicago Underground Film Festival and made Roger Ebert’s list of top documentaries that year.
Camacho is an instructor at Yollocalli Arts Reach, an initiative of the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago.
RAM is inside Riverfront Museum Park at 711 N. Main St., downtown Rockford.
The next lecture in the museum’s series will be at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 10. Sculptor Eric Fuertes will share insights about his role as fabricator of Carlos Rolón/Dzine’s ghost bike sculpture and how its construction crosses over into his own studio practice. A Texas native, he teaches at Northern Illinois University.
