Ribbon-cutting for Children’s Holiday Shoppe Nov. 26; shop is open Nov. 29-Dec. 21
Online Staff Report
The Children’s Holiday Shoppe, an event benefiting Children’s Home + Aid’s MotherHouse Crisis Nursery, will kick off with a Rockford Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 26, at 5856 E. State St. (between Valli Foods and Hancock Fabrics).
Children’s Home + Aid will welcome WIFR News Anchor Whitney Martin as the event emcee and have the support of State Sen. Dave Syverson, R-Rockford; Einar Forsman, president & CEO Rockford Chamber of Commerce; Gary Caruana, Winnebago County Sheriff-elect; and Paul Logli, president & CEO of United Way Rock River Valley as guest speakers.
The Children’s Holiday Shoppe is a special store where children can shop for new gifts priced from $1 to $8. Parents take a much-needed break as volunteers assist children in choosing gifts for the special people in their lives. Gifts will be wrapped and tagged and excited young shoppers will return to their parents thrilled to have shopped independently and practiced their budgeting skills.
“In addition to the support of very generous sponsors including Brad and Deb Stein, Trickie Enterprises, SIDCOR Real Estate, and BMO Harris Bank, the success of the Children’s Holiday Shoppe event relies heavily on over 250 holiday volunteers, or as we like to call them, elves!” said Lisa Breitsprecker, Children’s Home + Aid’s statewide development manager. “These dedicated helpers include MotherHouse volunteers, high school students, corporate teams, family groups and Scout troops. We couldn’t be more grateful for all their support in giving local children and families hope this holiday season!”
The Shoppe is open Nov. 29-Dec. 21. Hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturdays; 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Sundays; and 3-7 p.m., Thursdays.
In addition to a larger Shoppe in 2014, Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit regularly and children will have the opportunity to write letters to Santa and make holiday crafts while they wait. Refreshments will be available, along with surprises for both parents and children this holiday season.
