Tutoring Clubs, an outreach of Stateline Youth for Christ (YFC), will be holding its sixth annual holiday fund-raiser this December. Beginning Dec. 1, tickets may be purchased for $5 each or five for $20 at 10 local credit unions, including First Northern, Generations, Heritage, It’s My Credit Union (formerly Winn Cty Schools), MembersAlliance, Rock Valley, Rockford Bell, Rockford Municipal Employees, Rockford Postal Employees and SwedishAmerican Federal Credit Unions. The ticket offers an opportunity to win a “money tree” full of gift cards, including a grand prize of a $1,000 VISA gift card, plus four other gift card packages from $75 to $250, for a total prize value of $1,500.
Proceeds from the fund-raiser go directly to the YFC Tutoring Clubs program. A maximum 2,500 tickets will be sold (must be 18 years or older). The winners will be drawn from all entries received through Dec. 31, and will be announced on WIFR-TV’s “The Blend” with Andy & Aaron at 9 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015.
Tutoring Clubs is a one-on-one mentoring relationship between a caring adult volunteer and an at-risk child in grade one through five. During the school year, they meet weekly for a two-hour session that includes a hot meal. Students experience increased confidence and show improvement academically, socially and spiritually.
Currently, there are 100 volunteers and seven locations, with requests to add clubs throughout the community. Bob Griffin, executive director of Stateline Youth for Christ, noted: “Your ticket purchase will help with supplies and to assist in reaching more area students. This is a preemptive effort to direct children in becoming productive citizens.”
