In October, Kryptonite, 308 W. State St., downtown Rockford, launched the inaugural first Sunday of the month blues jam. Attendance and participation in the jam was so great that the jam time has been increased from two to three hours.
The Dec. 7 jam starts at 6 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. “Barstool” Bob Levis, Justin “Boots” Gates, Jannie Nelson, Ron Holm and Kenny D host the event and provide house band backup for singers and instrumentalists.
Levis is a long-time fixture in the Rockford and Chicago blues scenes. He toured the globe for decades with Otis Rush and Lonnie Brooks and served a long stint in the Kingston Mines House Band.
Gates is an astounding 14-year-old blues prodigy who is gaining notoriety across the country for his uncanny ability to channel the sounds and styles of the players who created the art form, while adding his own youthful and original twist.
Nelson, Holm and Kenny D are part of the well-known Between Planes band.
Admission is free. Everyone who wants gets a chance to play. Musicians can sign up at the jam or they can email firstname.lastname@example.org. More information is available at (815) 979-1949 or at www.facebook.com/kryptosundayblues or www.kryptonitebar.com.
