First Fridays at Oregon VFW Dec. 5 to feature traditional Christmas songs
By Ron Colson
OREGON, Illinois — First Fridays will welcome December and the Christmas season as First Fridays’ live music brightens up the Oregon VFW for another great show. Starting at 7 p.m., Dec. 5, the best musicians in the region gather, and each musician (or band) will take 15 minutes at center stage with that format continuing until each group has been featured.
After the individual performances, all of the musicians will gather on stage for a jam session to wrap up the evening’s festivities
Talented musicians from across northern Illinois, and often neighboring states, appear on a regular basis. In addition to traditional Christmas songs, First Fridays will offer its regular New Folk or Americana that is varied and includes country, bluegrass, blues, folk, gospel, soft rock and eclectic mixes of all of the above. Instruments are all acoustic and a professional sound system is supplied. Participation is encouraged, so bring an instrument and join the show, or kick back and just enjoy the music.
First Fridays is a part of northern Illinois’ Friday night music scene, along with Second Fridays in Lanark, Third Fridays in Franklin Grove, and special Fifth Friday shows in Franklin Grove.
The VFW will feature an extensive menu of quality food and beverage. Admission is by freewill donation.
The Oregon VFW Club is at 1310 W. Washington St., on Illinois Route 64 at the west edge of Oregon, Illinois.
