Sports Page shooting: Three face charges after Dec. 6 incident

Shortly after 1 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 6, patrol officers from the Rockford Police Department responded to the Sports Page bar, 3905 Broadway, in reference to shots fired. When they arrived, officer located the 26-year-old victim, Joseph DeVlieger, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. DeVlieger was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his non-life threatening injuries. Officers determined the shooting was the result of a dispute that started inside the bar between two groups of subjects that continued into the parking lot.

Detectives from the Rockford Police Department conducted a follow-up investigation and the results were reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office. Charges were authorized against the following individuals for the listed charges:

Justin C. Pirtle, 22, of Loves Park, has been charged with aggravated unlawful use of weapons;

Calvin Y. Jamison, 23, of Rockford, has been charged with mob action; and

Roger C. Smith, 23, of Rockford, has been charged with mob action.
