Without Shoes Modern Dance presents ‘The Polar Express’

Staff Report

Rockford’s Without Shoes Modern Dance Company will present its annual public performance of The Polar Express — based on Chris Van Allsburg’s Caldecott Award-winning children’s story of the same name — at 6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 18, at Rockford University’s Maddox Theatre, 5050 E. State St., Rockford. School productions will also be given Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 17-18.

The Polar Express is the story of a boy who travels to the North Pole on Christmas Eve. He meets Santa Claus and is given the gift of choosing the first gift of Christmas. As a narrator reads Allsburg’s text, Without Shoes dancers present the action through dance. More than 50 children from the community and adults join forces to present this educational event.

The 45-minute performance is perfect for families and children of all ages. Tickets to the public performance are $10 in advance at JustGoods, 201 Seventh St., or $12 at the door.
