Online Staff Report
While many associate the Christmas season with happy gatherings of family and friends, there are many whose holiday spirit is crushed by the harsh realities of simply making ends meet. The Salvation Army is making a determined effort this holiday season to bring hope to these local families who desperately need a helping hand.
“As families come to receive toys and food for Christmas, The Salvation Army would like to say ‘thank you’ to the many within the Rockford area who have generously provided. God bless you,” said Winnebago County Coordinator Major Steve Merritt.
For those who have registered for food and toys, The Salvation Army of Winnebago County will hold its Christmas Distribution from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 18; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, Dec. 19; and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 20. Distribution is at The Salvation Army Tabernacle Corps, 210 N. Kilburn Ave., in Rockford. For individuals who registered to receive food only, distribution will take place at The Salvation Army’s Social Services Building at 416 S. Madison St., in Rockford, during the same time frames as noted.
Families and individuals who still wish to register for food and toys may do so Monday, Dec. 22 through Tuesday, Dec. 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Wednesday, Dec. 24, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Social Services Building. They will need to provide the following items:
