Man sentenced to 38 years for May 2008 murder

Walter Woodard, 27, has been sentenced to 38 years in prison for the May 2008 stabbing death of Allan Nathan Walker.
Woodward was convicted of first-degree murder following a bench trial in 2012. His sentence calls for three years of Mandatory Supervised Release upon his release from prison.
In May 2008, Rockford police were called to an apartment on North Winnebago Street for a stabbing. When officers got there, they found Walker, and he was rushed to the hospital. Police say Walker was stabbed at least 12 times by Woodard.
First-degree murder is a Class M felony that is punishable by a sentence of 20 to 60 years followed by three years of Mandatory Supervised Release.
