Avoid holiday brain drain at Discovery Center

Staff Report

The kids will soon be out of school for their winter break. But that doesn’t mean it’s “tis the season” for kids to be without reason! The holidays are a great time to exercise the mind.

Rockford’s Discovery Center provides the perfect holiday mix … family fun, physical activity and even a little science! And Dec. 26 through 30, Discovery Center will be celebrating winter with extra fun during “Holiday Hoopla.”

With more than 250 hands-on exhibits, holiday planetarium shows, special craft activities and live science demonstrations during the last week in December, kids and adults will have fun, and maybe even learn a little something about science. The extra activities will take place at 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day. Holiday Hoopla activities are included with admission to the museum. Planetarium shows are $1 for the general public and 50 cents for Discovery Center members. The Build It! Make It! exhibit will also be open through Jan. 4 and is $2 for the public and free for members.

Discovery Center will be open until 3 p.m. on Christmas Eve, closed Christmas Day, and open regular hours (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Discovery Center is inside Riverfront Museum Park, 711 N. Main St., Rockford. General admission is $8 adults, $8 ages 2-17, and free to members and ages 1 and younger. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m., daily. Call (815) 963-6769 or visit www.discoverycentermuseum.org.
