Evidence found in Dec. 20 quadruple murder, but no arrests

Investigation into the Dec. 20 murder of two adults and two children at 3234 Montrose, Rockford, continues.

Rockford Police detectives, Illinois State Police investigators and the Winnebago County Violent Crimes Task Force have been following up on all leads related to the murders of Martia Flint, 24; Demontae Rhodes, 24 (a friend of Martia Flint’s); Tyrone Smith III, 6 (child of Martia Flint); and Tobias K. Smith, 4 (child of Martia Flint).

Following up on those leads, detectives have searched several residences in Rockford and recovered evidence and a handgun. The evidence and handgun will be examined by Rockford Police crime scene detectives and the Illinois State Police Crime lab.

No arrests have been made, but detectives are continuing to interview known associates and those who have information of the activities of the victims.

Police responded to the Montrose address at around 11:20 p.m., Dec. 20, in reference to shots fired. A neighbor heard pounding on a door, then the sound of a door being forced open, followed almost immediately by gunshots. A male in a hooded sweatshirt was seen outside the residence during the time of the incident.
