Juneau, Wisconsin, teen dies in I-39/Bypass 20 crash

Matthew J. Hoeft, 19, of Juneau, Wisconsin, died Saturday, Jan. 3, when the vehicle he was driving southbound on Interstate 39/Bypass U.S. 20 crossed into northbound traffic and was struck by a semi truck.

Inside lanes of Interstate 39 were blocked for a number of hours Saturday as a result of the crash.

According to Illinois State Police, wintery conditions existed prior to the incident. Preliminary investigation indicates the Mercury Montego driven by Hoeft was southbound while the semi was northbound. At approximately mile marker 121, the Mercury crossed the center median and collided with the semi.

No other injuries were reported in the crash and no citations have been issued.
