Writers’ Guild offers ‘Playwriting Workshop’ Jan. 18 at Burpee

Staff Report

Rockford Writers’ Guild is presenting a “Playwriting Workshop” at Burpee Museum of Natural History from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 18. James Marshall, Ph.D., will moderate a panel of local theater artists.

We will have a panel of people involved in various aspects of theater production, including playwrights, come talk about their work,” Marshall said. “The specific lens will be, ‘How can an author write a play that allows other theater artists to do their best work?’”

Youth Director Lori Marshall will be leading the Junior Guild in a similar way.

The Junior Guild will choose to work alone or with a partner to develop a short (2-minute) theatrical piece,” Lori Marshall said. “They will have the option to share these within the larger meeting.”

The 2015 winter-spring edition of The Rockford Review, “Lovely,” will be released at the meeting. The edition includes the play Roundabout Rumble by David Ross and several poems dedicated to understanding homelessness.

The Jan. 18 event is free and open to anyone interested in writing. Burpee Museum is at 737 N. Main St., Rockford. For more details, visit www.rockfordwritersguild.com or contact Connie Kuntz at (779) 772-0716 or editor@rockfordwritersguild.com.
