Rockford’s Anderson Japanese Gardens will host a Traditional Japanese Snow Viewing Tea Ceremony Saturday, Jan. 31. The demonstration will be in Anderson Japanese Gardens’ 16th-century Sukiya-style Guest House.
Participants are encouraged to arrive at the Visitor Center 15 minutes prior to their Tea Ceremony time. Anderson Gardens is at 318 Spring Creek Road.
Kimiko Gunji, professor emeritus of Japanese Traditional Arts and Culture and the former director of Japan House at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, will host the event.
The tea ceremony will be offered from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.; 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.; and 2 to 3 p.m., Jan. 31. Cost is $20 for members, $25 for non-members. Space is limited to 15 participants for each tea ceremony and reservations are required. For those who would like to learn more about the tea ceremony, Gunji will teach proper tea serving procedures Sunday, Feb. 1. The class will be from 9 a.m. until noon and is limited to 10 participants. The cost is $45 per participant, and reservations are required.
