Online Staff Report
Rock Valley College (RVC) will kick off a year-long celebration of its 50th anniversary with a special event at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 23, in the Student Center Atrium on RVC’s main campus, 3301 N. Mulford Road.
The college will reveal its 50th anniversary logo and share some plans for celebrating 50 years of RVC throughout the remainder of the year.
RVC President Mike Mastroianni and RVC Board Chairman Frank Haney will provide brief remarks. Cake and punch will be served.
RVC was created by district-wide referendum on Oct. 10, 1964, after a two-year study established the need for a community college. The first classes began Sept. 29, 1965, at various community locations, and the first classes were held on what is now known as RVC’s main campus on Mulford Road in the fall of 1966.
