A new exhibit has landed at Atwood Center, 2685 New Milford School Road, Rockford. The “All About Birds Exhibit” will provide information about the diversity of bird species, particularly raptors, found in Illinois.
The interactive exhibit will feature a life-size replica of an eagle’s nest, an area for comparing and contrasting beak adaptations, wing span information, bird watching, and a hands-on area featuring foods birds eat, and everyday tools that mimic bird beaks.
To introduce this new exhibit, the Rockford Park District is inviting the community to the free “All About Birds Exhibit” open house from noon to 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 31, at Atwood Center. Visitors are invited to enjoy a complimentary lunch, observe the 1 p.m. Birds of Prey feeding, and tour the accessible tree house, hiking trails, and rental and dormitory facilities.
The “All About Birds” exhibit and open house is free and open to the public on Saturdays.
This exhibit was made possible thanks to a $2,000 grant through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Preservation Fund. The exhibit will also serve visiting school and community groups.
