Rock Valley College hosts entrepreneurship event Jan. 30
Online Staff Report
For the second year in a row, local sophomore, junior and senior high school students have been invited to Rock Valley College (RVC) for a fun day of exploration that will help them discover how to tap in to an entrepreneurial spirit. The second annual event, called “Imagine Me,” will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 30, on RVC’s main campus, 3301 N. Mulford Road.
Students will hear how local entrepreneurs started their own dream. Tracie Burress, creator and owner of sockTABs, will be the keynote speaker. sockTABs is a family owned business with headquarters in Rockford, and the product earned Burress first place at the 2014 Fast Pitch Competition hosted by Rockford’s EIGERlab.
Other highlights of the “Imagine Me” event will include workshops where students can learn about topics including social media, entrepreneurship, and the business programs offered at RVC.
In all, there will be approximately 250 high school students participating in the event, representing the following high schools: Auburn, Belvidere, East, Guilford, Hononegah, Jefferson, Kent, Roosevelt, and Stillman Valley. Additionally, more than 30 RVC students from the Right Place to Start program will also be in attendance.
