Man shot three times near Oakley Avenue, West Jefferson Street

A 34-year-old man was shot three times in the right leg Thursday, Jan. 29, in the area of Oakley Avenue and West Jefferson Street in Rockford. The man’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police responded to multiple reports of shots fired coming from the area at around 9:43 p.m. They found the man upon arrival, and he was transported to a local hospital.

Initial investigation indicates the victim was walking eastbound with another man in the area of Oakley and Jefferson when a dark-colored sports utility vehicle (SUV), also traveling eastbound on Jefferson, approached them.

The driver of the SUV slowed down as it approached the two individuals, at which time multiple gunshots came from the SUV, striking the victim three times in the right leg.

The SUV was last seen heading northbound on Oakley Avenue. The victim and the other man then proceeded southbound on Oakley Avenue. Both individuals stopped at the intersection of Oakley and Mulberry Street, where they were located by police.

The incident remains under investigation.
