Short pleads guilty to second-degree murder

Jeanette Short pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in front of the Honorable Judge John Truitt Thursday, according to Winnebago County State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato.

Witnesses said on March 15, 2014 Short had gotten into an argument with Achaiah McGhee at the Rockford Mass Transit District bus terminal during which Short stabbed McGhee.

McGhee died at the hospital from injuries sustained in the stabbing.

Short was sentenced to 20 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by two years of Mandatory Supervised Release once out of prison.
