Protests at capitol over Rauner’s proposed cuts

From Illinois News Network

There were hundreds of protesters at the state capitol Wednesday decrying proposed cuts under Governor Bruce Rauner’s budget for the coming fiscal year.

“To Governor Ruaner: Shame on you!” protesters yelled outside the capitol.

The group filled the capitol rotunda before marching through Springfield Wednesday. At one moment during House floor debate, protesters unrolled a banner that said “tax the one percent” and were then ejected from the chamber, but the ruckus lasted several minutes disrupting debate.

Representative Ron Sandack found the timing curious: “I just wonder why it’s taking as long as it is. This is a little unprecedented and I suspect that if a group of taxpayers were down here complaining about what we tax we’d get them out of this chamber a heck of a lot sooner.”

After disrupting the House, the group marched down Capitol Avenue in Springfield with a coffin while wearing t-shirts saying, “Who will you choose?”
