Blanche J Martin scholarships available for elementary education majors

An endowment established by educator Blanche J. Martin to be used towards scholarships through the Winnebago County Retired Teachers Association (WCRTA) is available for those majoring in elementary education.

This scholarship is to be awarded to a full-time student in a state approved College of Education program or a high school senior planning on teaching in elementary education.

Graduating college seniors planning to pursue a master’s degree in elementary education may also apply.

The application process is also open to college graduates seeking a master’s degree in elementary education.

The award amount is decided annually with the average being $2,000, the lowest awarded $1,000 and the highest possible being $4,000.

The applicants must live in Winnebago County, have and maintain a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale and may be attending any college or university in the United States.

The application process includes application, essay, two reference letters and transcript.

Applications are available at the Regional Office of Education, 300 Heart Blvd., Loves Park or online at with the deadline for applications being April 15.

Those sending in applications are requested to write “Attention: Blanche J. Martin Scholarship” on the application envelopes before returning them to the Regional Office of Education.

Scholarship recipients will be notified May 15 with the winners being recognized at a WCRTA Awards luncheon in June.
