Rockford’s 13th Annual Spring ArtScene will take place this weekend. ArtScene incorporates thousands of art-loving people to galleries and studios all over town. The event has no cover charge, but participants are encouraged to buy the original pieces of art displayed.
This year, the event will include new participants Kate’s Pie Shop and The Rockford Roasting Company. Other veteran ArtScene venues include the Rockford Art Deli, Abreo Restaurant, the Rockford Art Museum, Rockford University, 317 Studio & Gallery, Irish Rose, The Olympic Tavern, Just Goods, Minglewood and Kortman Gallery.
An abundance of eccentric, offbeat galleries have been established for this event. Storytelling gallery Conveyor has crafted an unique and experimental event: #TheDaylightHours begins on April 11 at 8 a.m. where 25 participants will be selected on a first come first served basis to snap portraits of strangers on the street, which will be printed and displayed by 3 p.m. The event takes place at 304 Main St, the former Conseco building.
The Rockford Art Deli will be curating an event titled “Research Turtle Soup”– Chris Evans, alias Warehouse Escape Plan, heavily featuring Wes Anderson characters in portraits and scenes. The Art Deli is open an additional hour after ArtScene traditionally ends– 10 p.m.
