RAMP adds fun new theme for upcoming Wheel-A-Thon

Staff Reportwheelathon

RAMP’s 10th annual Boone County Wheel-A-Thon is coming up April 25 at the Community Building in Belvidere, 111 W. First Street.

This year everyone is encouraged to wear old bridesmaid dresses, bad suits or even tuxedo t-shirts for their new bad prom theme.

In addition to regular wheel-a-thon activities this year they are adding a 5k and a Kids Fun Run to the event.

The wheel-a-thon takes an ordinary walk and adds a disability aspect by focusing on the abilities of a person in a wheelchair.

The wheelchair can be shared by a team and decorated before the two mile event begins.

Participants pay a fee, although the Kids Fun Run is free, and can collect donations to receive incentives from local community partners such as Mcdonald’s, the Rockford Aviators and Magic Waters.

The day of the event registration will go from 8:30-9:30 a.m., the Kids Fun Run beginning at 9:30, followed by the 5k and Wheel-A-Thon at 10:00 and at 10:45 the Wheel-A-Thon and 5K award presentations and refreshments.

Those registering by April 10 will receive a t-shirt the day of the event.

Proceeds from this event help support RAMP’s Boone County office and further RAMP’s mission to promote an accessible society that allows and expects full participation by individuals with disabilities.
