Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center will be hosting an Indoor Market Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
The market will be held at the Emerson Building, 420 N. Main St., in Rockford and is free to the public.
Poet and artist Ruth Schampier will be at the event sharing her poetry.
Schampier is the former director of advertising for the Washington Tourism Magazine in Seattle, Washington.
Upon her return to her home town of Rockford, she has dedicated her life during the past several years to her artwork which includes collecting leaves of the most vibrant colors found across the United States and Mexico.
Japanese Maples are her most cherished leaves. “I was taken aback to notice the multicolored leaves that had fallen in the yard of one of my friends,” she recalls.
“The spectacular beauties took my breath away as I began to pick them up, none the same, and seven to eight different colors in each leaf.”
The market will feature artwork, an author’s book signing, painters as well as various vendors.
There will also be live entertainment throughout the day.
