This Saturday night the green flag will drop on the 68th annual season opener at the Rockford Speedway. The iconic track is located on the southwest corner of Highway 173 and Forest Hills Road in Loves Park.

The divisions that will challenge the high-banked quarter mile oval to open up the season on Saturday night are the Stanley Steemer NASCAR Late Models, Bargain Hunter Sportsmen, Miller Lite American Short Trackers and the Kickstart Roadrunners.

The racing action starts at 7:07 p.m. Fans looking to get an earlier start on celebrating the racing season can stop by the Onyx Sports Bar and Grill beginning at 11:00 a.m. to meet some of the drivers, crews and their cars.

They’ll be on hand in the Onyx parking lot for the third annual pre-season car show. It’s a great opportunity for fans young and old to co-mingle with the drivers, collect autographs and take some pictures.

Onyx is located on the southeast corner of Highway 251 and 173 in Machesney Park at the Machesney Crossing shopping center. The show runs until 2:30 p.m.

After checking out the cars and crews, fans are invited inside Onyx to vote for “Best Appearing Car”. The bar and grill will also offer race fans some terrific lunch specials. For the 2015 racing season Onyx has teamed up with the Rockford Speedway to offer a free appetizer on NASCAR Sundays to anyone who brings in their ticket stub from the Saturday night event.

To reserve your seats for the season opener or to get more information about the car show you can call the Rockford Speedway box office at 815-633-1500.
