Spring metals & electronics drive set for May 2

Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful will be holding its Spring Metals & Electronics Drive Saturday, May 2 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at 8750 N. Second St., Machesney Park,. in the south lot of the Machesney Town Center.

Twice a year around 100 volunteers assist recyclers at this free drop off to keep items such as old or non-working laptop and desktop computers, irons, pots and pans, printers, hair dryers, cell phones, water heaters, holiday lights, barbeque grills, lawn mowers, swings, gutters, tools and other household and office cast-offs out of landfills.

Televisions will not be accepted at this event.

Although most items are accepted free of charge, there is a $10 fee for appliances containing Freon such as dehumidifiers, refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners.

There is also a $10 fee for barbeque-type propane tanks.

Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful partners with Behr Iron and Metal for this event to sort, bundle, crush, haul away and recycle materials donated.

Support for the event is also provided by the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department and media partners The Rock River Times and 23 WIFR/Gray Television.

Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful has been working since 1988 to protect the beautiful of the region by promoting reduction, recycling and refuse of materials as an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful.
