New Images of Rail book shows history of Rockford railways

Author Mike Schafer and Brian Landis teamed up for the new book “Rockford & Interurban Railway.”

This book gives readers a a vast history of the railways of the region starting in the early 1900s.

With over 200 pictures this book offers not only a look back into the railways of the times but Rockford as a whole throughout the years.

The Rockford & Interurban Railways enjoyed a flurry of success until being diminished by the automobile and the Great Depression.

Author Mike Schafer is a member of the North Western Illinois Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society (NRHS) which meets the fourth Saturday of the month at 7 p.m. at St. Marks Lutheran Church, 675 N. Mulford Road, in Rockford.
