Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful collecting for Cell Phones for Soldiers

Both Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful Recycle Centers in the area will be open Saturday, May 23 collecting cell phones, pagers and tablets to be donated to Cell Phones for Soldiers.

“Cell phones dropped off for recycling Memorial Day week will be shipped to Cell Phones for Soldiers, a non-profit that helps veterans and active-duty military in need of free calls home from US or overseas assignments,” Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful Executive Director Lori Gummow said.

Last year 79 cell phones were donated during the Memorial Day collection.

The two Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful recycling locations are at 4665 Hydraulic Road, Rockford and 13125 N. Second St., Roscoe.

The Rockford location is open Tuesdays from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. and both are open from 9 a.m.-noon on Saturdays.

The website also features a list of items accepted for recycling as well as a ‘Green Guide’ with safe disposal suggestions for many common household items.
