Letter to the Editor: Goodwill thanks volunteers

On behalf of Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois, I would like to thank the 53 volunteers that gave over 1,774 hours this past tax season to make the Goodwill Free Volunteer Income Tax Preparation program a great success.

The Goodwill tax program was able to file 2,357 returns for individuals and families in our communities representing refunds of over $2.5 million dollars. The savings in fees alone is over $425,000 for this free service for community members.

We are grateful for our IRS-certified volunteers and community partners including United Way of the Rock River Valley, Kishwaukee United Way, the IRS, the Rockford Public Schools, Rock Valley College, Rockford Career College, Northern Illinois University, Winnebago County Health Department, all of our mobile site partners and the generous businesses that donated to our volunteers.

Over the past 6 years, Goodwill’s tax sites have helped individuals access their refunds for over $11.4 million dollars, which goes right back into our local community. We thank our volunteers and our community for their support of this program!

Sincerely,

Courtney Geiger
Director of Mission Services
Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois
