Post Traumatic Stress Disorder could soon be added to the list of eligible ailments allowed for treatment in the Medical Cannabis Pilot Program.
If signed by Governor Rauner, Senate Bill 33 would also protect an approved medical cannabis patient’s Firearm Owner Identification Card.
Democrat Representative Lou Lang said the measure is common sense.
“Now you all now I’m not a big fan of guns but this is about fundamental fairness. These people don’t want to go out and buy a gun, they just don’t want to lose their FOID cards.”
Senate Bill 33 passed 67 to 36 and now heads to the Governor’s desk. Lang passed other measures that would extend the pilot program for four years after the first dispensaries open.
The program got a late start in the transition from Governor Pat Quinn to Governor Bruce Rauner earlier this year — the second year of a four year program. So far, there are no operating dispensaries.
