New Orleans jazz comes to DeKalb Farmers Market

Staff Report

Just Make It Happen, Inc. will present the Wing and a Prayer Dixieland Orchestra (WPDO) on Thursday, June 11 from 12:00-1:30 p.m. in the Van Buer parking lot, corner of N. 2nd and Locust in DeKalb.

This performance is thanks largely in part to an anonymous donor.

Mark Baldin, DeKalb’s trumpet and cornet virtuoso, created the WPDO 21 years ago to explore the fun and lively New Orleans jazz tunes.

Thursday’s appearance will feature six of the seven instruments in the WPDO: cornet, clarinet, trombone, banjo, tuba and piano, with requests being accepted and often performed during the 90 minute interactive program.

The DeKalb Farmers Market features a variety of vendors selling items such as local produce, bedding plants, hanging flower baskets, fresh cut flowers, gourmet meat products, cheese, wine, delicious baked goods, jams, jellies and sauces, pet treats, handmade soaps, jewelry and more.
