After five innings of a true pitchers’ duel, the Snappers came out on top 5-2 as Brett Graves stayed perfect, moving to 6-0 on the season. Graves threw six strong innings for the Snappers, totaling four strikeouts and beginning the game with five consecutive outs.
Neither team saw a runner reach as far as third base until the bottom of the sixth inning when Max Kuhn hit a homerun off Lake County reliever Jordan Carter to bring in Joe Bennie and break a scoreless tie. Carlos Navas came on in relief of Graves in the top of the seventh inning and stranded two runners to keep Lake County off the scoreboard, maintaining a 2-0 lead.
The Snappers strung a couple hits together in the bottom of seventh and took a 3-0 lead when James Harris scored on a Jose Brizuela single.
Lake County finally got on the board in the top of the eighth inning when Yu-Cheng Chang doubled and Claudio Bautista brought him in with a sacrifice fly to deep center field. Jose Torres replaced Navas and gave up a single to Bobby Bradley who moved up to third on an error from Robert Martinez and scored on a Bobby Ison double. Torres was able to limit the damage, and the Snappers carried a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the inning.
The Snappers rallied again in the eighth off Nick Pasquale, putting runners on first and second with nobody out and getting two-out RBI singles from James Harris and Trent Gilbert. Torres came back on for the top of the ninth and faced four batters, striking out Chang to end the game. Lake County righty Jordan Carter took the loss and Torres notched his fifth save on the season.
The Beloit Snappers are 24-33 on the season and will look to take the series against the Lake County Captains tomorrow at 7:00 p.m.
