Another Committee of the Whole is planned Tuesday where lawmakers in the House will hear about the Governor’s proposals for the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.
In a press release from State Representative Jack Franks, the Democrat says Tuesday’s hearing will give lawmakers the chance to discuss the Governor’s proposed public-private partnership for economic development.
Franks, a longtime critic of DCEO who has even called for it to be defunded, says the hearing will also allow lawmakers to find out how states with similar public-private partnerships may have misused public dollars to promote economic growth.
Republican Representative Ron Sandack says he’s interested in hearing more about the idea.
“It may be time to go to a different model altogether and be less involved with the government and more involved private industry, the people that really need the private sector to get going.”
Other action in the House includes a Personnel and Pensions Committee to take up a Senate Amendment to the Secure Choice Savings program, and a House Executive Committee will tackle a Senate Joint Resolution that would create the Illinois Complete Count Commission aimed at increasing compliance with the 2020 census.
