Rockford Public Library hosts poetry slam

Rockford Public Library will be hosting the final stage night of the Rustbelt Regional Poetry Slam Competition on Saturday from 5:30-10 p.m. at the Nordlof Center, J. R. Sullivan Theater, 118 N. Main St.

Hundreds of poets will take the stage to compete during this event.

In addition from noon-4 p.m. on Saturday poets will be in the rehearsal room on the second floor, allowing for more preliminary rounds prior to the final competition that evening.

This two-day poetry and spoken-word festival will start on Friday at several Rockford businesses with the final stage culminating on Saturday at the Nordlof Center for the Rustbelt title. Final Bout List and list of venues will be available on the Rustbelt Competition in Rockford Facebook page at facebook/rustbelt2015rockfordil.

Admission to the festival is free although a $5 donation is suggested with all proceeds going towards local charities.

This event is co-sponsored by Rockford Certified Slam, Rockford Public Library and Bookworm Alt Bake & Catering.
