Storms, tornadoes pound central Illinois
A series of strong storms passed through Illinois along the I-88-to-I-80 corridor spawning dangerous tornadoes along the way.
Early reports indicate that the Woodhaven Lakes Resort, south of Amboy, took the brunt of the storm as it passed through.
Ham radio operators reported a call for emergency crews across the northern part of the state to respond to a mass casualty event at the campground, the nation’s largest private trailer park and resort.
High winds caused extensive damage to a shopping mall in Sterling although no tornado was reported on the ground in the community.
Heavy rains have also created flash flood situations through the path of the storm, from Lee County across the state to Kankakee.
High-tension power lines from the Braidwood Nuclear Generating Station were down on I-55. ComEd crews were scrambling to communities throughout the state to restore power and secure downed power lines.
